Cromogenia Units develops the project OMNICUTEX to obtain and develop emulsions that are destined to omniphobic fluor-free coatings for the leather and textile sector.

The project OMNICUTEX sets its goal to develop a hydro- and oleophobic fluor-free coating that can be applied to textile and leather industries. In this sense it wants to offer a solution to the current problem related to the use of fluoridated composites that are classified as persistant and bioaccumulative substances that have been detected in different varieties of wild species around the world.

OMNICUTEX searching for sustainability and quality

The best non-fluoridated alternatives in the market have demonstrated a high water repellency that is similar to that of short-chained fluoridated polymeres. On the other hand, in the case of lipophilic liquids – with minor superficial tensions – the repellency that offer the non-fluoridated alternatives is clearly reduced. That is why the necessity of amphiphobic fluorless textile finishings emerges to meet the technical and regulatory market necessities. This demand of fluor-free composites has been promoted not only by the banning of historically used fluoridated composites, but as well by the bursting of the current sanitary crisis that needs strongly water- and oil-repellent properties when it comes to PPE and masks.

That is why the present project pretends to attack this problema developping new textile and leather finishings that are free from fluor with oil- & hydrofugant properties that can satisfy the necessities in terms of service as well as sustainability.

The project will be realized within the installations of CROMOGENIA with a duration of two years from october 2020 until october 2022 with a total budget of 525.139,00 €.

The project has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the frame of the Operative Pluriregional Intelligent Growth Program 2014-2020 and by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (IDI-20210209).
