Message from Álex Cabestany

CEO of Cromogenia Units

At Cromogenia Units, sustainability is not a trend, it is the cornerstone of our strategy. In 2024, we took decisive steps to reduce our impact and transform the way we do chemistry. We have reduced our Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 10%, aligning ourselves with the European target of cutting emissions by 40% by 2030. We have also promoted key projects such as the biomass boiler in Alcover and the installation of solar panels at our headquarters.
In the area of R&D, we are committed to solutions based on biosurfactants and renewable raw materials, with the goal of these products representing 25% of our sales in five years. In addition, we are reformulating our existing range to make it more sustainable and are working closely with our suppliers to advance the reduction of Scope 3 emissions.

“Our commitment is clear: to lead the change towards a more responsible, efficient, and innovative chemical industry”.

GHG emissions 2024

In 2023, we carried out the first carbon footprint calculation for Cromogenia Units (Spain), verified by APPLUS+. In 2024, we recalculated it, incorporating off-site plants and updating the data with the most recent information and emission factors.

Scopes assessed according to the GHG Protocol:

  • Scope 1: Direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated at our facilities (natural gas, diesel, fluorinated gases).
  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions associated with the consumption of purchased electricity.
  • Scope 3: Indirect emissions from the value chain, mainly related to raw materials, transportation, distribution, waste management, and other sources.

* Local OTn approach with a market focus. GHG Protocol methodology. 2024 data externally verified by Bureau Veritas.

Driving the circular economy forward

At our Barcelona and Tarragona plants, we now use industrial containers made from recycled materials — a step towards lower emissions and more sustainable production.

A decisive step towards renewable energy

Our new biomass boiler at the Alcover plant (Tarragona) partially replaces natural gas and helps us cut CO₂ emissions.
